Sampling allows us to achieve the impossible—the only limitation is our imagination. In the case of these four beautifully harmonised gongs from Rome, Italy, we expand on their tonal range using our new Shepherd Mapping technique to create a gong-based chromatic instrument that responds just like a piano would. Housed in our all-new universal engine and GUI, the Gong Piano is an environment to create pulsing, ominous drones with newfound sonic depths full of foreboding mystery. It features hits, scrapes, harmonics and drones designed by Christian Henson, all with a truly organic hallmark (though from the sound of it, the organism isn’t of this planet). From soft metallic marimba-style tones to enigmatic percussive sonics that are reminiscent of a hang drum or softly played steel drum, all the way to the roar of complex competing and sympathetic harmonics of these extraordinary instruments when played more aggressively.
